The Whirlpool Galaxy is a spiral galaxy located in the M51 Group. At a diameter of 98,000 lightyears, the Whirlpool Galaxy is the brightest galaxy in the group. The galaxy is about 23 million lightyears from the Milky Way Galaxy.
The Whirlpool Galaxy is also known for containing a one-way Stone Ring that leads to the Scutum-Centaurus Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy.
Structure[]
The spiral structure of this galaxy was believed to have formed due to an interaction with its companion galaxy NGC 5195. Most stars in the Whirlpool Galaxy are formed in the center.
